WANTING THINGS TO COUNT

Consider all those who have gone on before,
The gruff lonely man; the sweet children next door.
When troubles prevail and end-times surmount
Can we make the difference? Will our lives really count?
Can we say with our Lord that we'll not be afraid
Of the terror by night nor the arrows by day?
Can we look to our God and see victory there,
Though the world's but a spiral caught in mid-air?
What will be our life's work? What good have we been?
Have we seen to our neighbor Have we been a good friend?
Is it time to get rolling? To offer that hand?
To give to the needy, to bless our own clan?
To put forth the effort, to watch and to pray?
Is the time growing shorter, with more nighttime than day?
When we look at the signs and see where we are,
May our good deeds number as high as the stars.
Our love must be greater, our compassion must grow...
We've got to do better at letting men know
There is a live God and He loves them so much
That He planned we would translate His God-loving touch.
In the time we have left, we must make moments reach
To the lonely, the hurt and the sick! We must teach
Men everywhere, Jesus - His gospel good news -
We must take up His cause and we've no time to lose!
So, make your life count, pour your love out on people;
Build friendships before you build churches with steeples.
Build long, loving bridges; build highways for others.
Repair broken bonds between sisters and brothers.
Mend neighbors' fences and shore up their dams;
Pour love on your family; and rescue their lambs.
We don't have tomorrow - we've only today,
To make our lives count so then He can say,
'Well done, My son, My daughter, My dear, precious child.
You've been very faithful. Come, rest a long while!"
And to see the sweet look that will come on His face
Is worth every effort and task that we've faced.
It's worth all the sacrifice; worth all the labor,
Because we have pleased Him by loving our neighbor!
That's what it's about; it's the only TRUE thing!
When all's said and done, we're just pleasing the King!
